Rated 3 out of 5 by from Trimmer works good when it works Within 6 months I had the recoil break on my starter. Once I just gave out. I would pull it and there was no resistance. The second one had the cord get all tangled inside. If they could make the starting more reliable, it would be a good product all the time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hard to start I purchased this trimmer last year after having a similar one for ten years. The new trimmer is very difficult to start so I purchased a jump start motor. I can now start the trimmer but it takes a longer than normal period to warm up so I can get it to full speed without stalling. Once started, the trimmer works fine and accepts all of the attachments I have had for my other trimmer. Today the jump start motor failed so now I have to go back to pulling the start cord numerous times to start the motor. I would not recommend this trimmer. I called Troy-Bilt customer service to try to get help with the jump start motor. I was put on hold and then was hung up on. I called back and was told to take it to a service center for evaluation and then was hung up on. The customer service for Troy-Bilt is terrible, another reason not to buy this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4 cycle Thumper. Buy the electric starter option, you'll never be happier. 4 cycle small engines do not start very easy. The corded electric starter is a must. These things need to be warmed up. Not 30 seconds or 60 seconds for that matter. Let them run at starting speed for 5 or 7 minutes while your cleaning and putting the mower away. Unlike 2 stroke engines that get their power from RPM's, 4 stroke engines get their power from torque. This need not be run in WOT, a moderate RPM and the torque generated will power through most things. They do not recommend using line larger than .095. I have chain link fencing, and it eats trimmer line. I run mine on .105 line and I get better line life than .095. Away from the fence the .105 line is indestructible and devours everything even saplings. To reload line from bulk, stretch line from your nose to arms length, 6 times and cut it off. It's that easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trimmer and More I have the curved trimmer with the straight "Aero" attachment along with the Edger and mini-Tiller attachments. This tool has never failed to do what ever job I've done from weed-whacking a 400 foot long ditch to tilling the ground for a new garden and flower bed. I can sum it all up in one word ... Impressive!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from when string jammed or pulled off I have struggled with the string that is loose out from the head, and finally realized that I lost the spring on the center of the head once it was open accicdentally during the mowing. I put one whatever spring from the hardware store that fits the hole in the head, it works well again. Mine is the second version of whatever they call pulley? It even accepts the 10inch commercial string (try at your own risk). Thanks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won’t start I bought one of these trimmers last summer. Used it a handful of times with clean fuel. Tried to start it twice this summer. Each time I invested 30 minutes. Neither time did it start. Meanwhile my wife purchased a electric trimmer “toy” that is way outperforming the trimmer I bought. Took me over a year to convince her to spend the money on the Troy Bilt. Not doing that again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wasted Money I bought this in Nov. 2015. So I used it Spring and Summer 2016 and twice this year. I had the carburetor replaced once this year. Used it one time after that and now the motor has blown. grr...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Gas String Trimmer I think this is the best trimmer I have ever owned. I previously purchase 2-stroke trimmers, but got tired of the undependability of starting them. Thanks Troybilt for making the best trimmer available.
