Rated 2 out of 5 by from junk I bought this 2 years ago, and its been a nightmare with it ever since. The thing does not start half the time, and when it does, it only idles. As soon as you squeeze the trigger to throttle up, it stalls out. It does not matter how long you let it warm up. I thought I was getting something better than a cheap product. I have a small yard, when it runs it only takes me 10 mins to trim everything, when it doesnt its a least a half hour, and countless restarts, and it only starts when it wants too. I will be getting a Echo or a Husqavarna soon.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from STARTER WON'T WORK I BOUGHT THIS TRIMMER ON JULY 28, 2018 FROM LOWES IN DOVER ,DE. AND IT QUIT STARTING IN SEPTEMBER 2018. I HAVE HAD IT IN A REPAIR SHOP AND IT QUIT WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF GETTING IT OUT. THE REPAIR SPRINGS THAT I NEED ARE NOT SHOWN IN THE PARTS DIAGRAM. SO WITH THAT, I CAN'T ORDER THE SPRING ASSEMBLE FOR THE STARTER SYSTEM, I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS TRIMMER. I WILL NOT BUT ANOTHER ITEM WITH THIS MANUFACTURER.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor starter design I purchased this trimmer on 5/26/18 because my previous one had cracked gas lines, etc because of its age and I just wanted a new one because of the good luck I have had in the past. I became ill and wasn't able to use the new one much. When I started it this spring, it was about the 20th time it had been started since I bought it. I used it about 5 times and the starter wouldn't turn the engine over. I took the cover off and the springs on the starter pawls had broken. I was willing to change them myself but the only way TroyBilt sells these springs is attached to a new engine, according to the local fix it shop that TroyBilt recommended. They also didn't know if this would be covered under the warranty. I was never so disappointed in a "24 month warranty period". In addition to the trimmer, I am also on my second TroyBilt backpack blower. I have not had any trouble with it but I am done purchasing any TroyBilt product. I will buy a starter bit to use with my drill to get the thing running but the first good sale I see on a competing brand will end my use of this poorly designed trimmer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Runs good .... HOWEVER ... I started out with a Troy built 25cc trimmer And after a summer worth of use the pull start came apart and it locked up so I took it back to Lowes as it was under warranty and I exchanged it and bought the TB685 EC...Thinking that may be a little more expensive one would be built better… However after using it for part of the summer in 2018 and now in 2019 it fires right up I use it a day and a half and the pull start mechanism comes apart inside of it and locks up… So now once again I will have to take it back to Lowe’s and exchange it out for another one hoping that yet once again maybe the third time hopefully the mechanism won’t come apart again… I would think that Troybilt would have addressed this issue and put better pull start mechanism in their products as there are hundreds of reviews online were this has happened… The motor and such is a good product but a person after spending hard earned money on a product of this caliber should not half to take it back and exchange it repeatedly because of the exact same thing keeps happening… And might I add that I am using the power start system I purchased for it so I’m not even pulling on the rope to start it

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Used twice. Stopped working. No support I bought this in October and used it twice in the fall. This spring it will not pull start or jumpstart. Frozen. The 2 places for warranty work closest to me do not work on these anymore even though they are listed on the website and referred by customer service.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst Troy-Bilt product I have ever owned. I am so angry with this trimmer that I made an account just so I could write this review. Quite simply it is not a good product; definitely not what I considered Troy-Bilt quality. I had this trimmer for two years. I used ethanol free gas, changed the oil, air filter, and the spark plug each time and "winterized" it each season. Late last season it appeared to start losing power. This season it would not pull start so I go buy one of the drill attachments. After spinning and spinning it finally started and immediately stopped. This happened multiple times. It finally started and kept running. For three minutes. As soon as I tried to trim the grass, it stopped. I restarted with the drill. It stopped again. This happened four more times and finally it would not start at all. Fresh gas, fresh oil, fresh plug, dead engine on a trimmer. Very unhappy!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Longer a Troy-Bilt customer I bought this unit in September and less than 6 months later, the flywheel broke. OK, not a problem, I call Troy-Bilt to be told I could order the part, I asked "why it is under warranty"? So they direct me to a local repair shop, just to find out there is a 3 week wait and I have to get repaired and I have to put a deposit before they will repair. Never again will I buy any Troy-Bilt products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from expected better - will not buy again next year thought maybe I had a lemon, but too many other comments agree. After first use in July, went into shop under warranty for oil leak. Was ok for the season, but pull starter was going out and took several pulls to engage. Last week about 30 minutes into edging, the thing blew oil everywhere and locked up. This thing is trash.
