Rated 1 out of 5 by from Threw this product out in less than 3 years Months after I purchased this product it broke. It was the pull cord starter that broke. I brought it to an authorized dealer for repair. 2 years later the same part broke again. What a poorly manufactured product. I bought it because it was rated high but that was not the case. While I had it, I found it heavy and found I had to constantly apply pressure on the trigger to keep it from stalling.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as it should have been I recently bought the TB685 EC at Home Depot. I used it two different occasion doing weekly yard work. The third time I experienced problems with the starter pull system, it will not catch and turn over the motor. It doesn't catch the little fan on the end of the drive shaft. If I had not bought the electric drill attachment I would not be able to use the machine. Other than the pull starter being no good the trimmer works well

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't rev up I purchased my Troy-bilt gas trimmer Just last May at Lowes. It worked fine all last summer and the first time I tried it this summer. But now I can only get it idle. It will not rev up to actually trim the grass. I went to my local service center and they told me if the problem with my gas trimmer was carburetor related that it would not be covered under warranty. What is the point of a 2 year warranty if it does not cover the basic operations of the device purchased? I really do not think I am expecting anything outside of the ordinary. What it comes down to is I can't use it. If I have to PAY to get it fixed while it is still under the 2 warranty then I will not be buying Troy-bilt products again. Purchased May 18th 2018 Item:41CDZ68C766 MDL:TB685EC S/N:1D048DD2146 I am not looking for a free hand out or anything else like that. I just want my trimmer to work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Starting Problems I had a troy-bilt trimmer for over 10 years. It finally stopped working beginning of 2018. I purchased from Lowes a new model TB685EC with so called easy/rapid start on 2/25/2018. I have used unleaded gas with no ethanol additives, etc. In May 2018 it started to become difficult to start, very frustrating trying over & over to start. Finally took it in to Pronto Mowers for service. They had the trimmer for over a month!! When I picked it up it started up with ease and continued to start with little problems until April of 2019. Starting became harder and harder until beginning of June, now it will not start. Their has tobe a defect in the starting system /pull cords. Pulling the cord makes a very loud clinging sound. I am very disappointed in this newer model. I take pride in my lawn. I have always cut and trimmed my own lawn. This trimmer has made it very difficult for me to keep the lawn looking good!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage I used this string trimmer 4 times and it's toast. Used the correct oil, the correct gas, maintained it, I'm a little over the top with caring for equipment. After 4 uses, the pull start would no longer crank the engine (thanks to the breaking of two little plastic tabs inside the engine), the jump start wouldn't crank it, and I had to send it in for warranty work. The shop doing the warranty work has been trying to get Troy-Bilt to replace it for three weeks because the parts needed to repair it are no longer available. There are YouTube videos everywhere about how cheaply made this trimmer is. I spent a little more money when I bought it, hoping for a trimmer that would last a long while, this one didn't even make a full season.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for a big yard We purchased this a year ago and needs work already. Not intended for a large yard and high volume work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will Not Run, hard to start Bought this two years ago, and have had nothing but trouble. There is a vent line leading back to the filter that plugs, and has to be cleaned out after every use (have to remove the carb to do this). Thought I was buying a decent 4 cycle so I would not have to mix gas/oil. Turns out that this unit was NOT the one to buy. Will either buy an electric unit or a 2 cycle to replace this....BUT....IT WILL NOT BE A TROY BILT

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy it I have used this for three summers. It stinks! Very difficult to add new string. I would junk it now except I was stupid and bought all attachments. If troybilt wants to buy it all back, its yours! Very much a nuisance. Even bought a new head this year thinking that would help, nope.
