Rated 1 out of 5 by from Troy-Bilt 2-cycle TB35EC Weed Eater I bought this Troy-Bilt weed eater Aug 2018, a year later Sept 2019 it has quit on me. After reading the reviews on this particular model, I can see that it will probably not be an item that will be warrantied by the manufacture as the issue I have are the same as most of the reviews I read the weed eater just quit while using it and never would start again. Therefore I will not attempt to follow up with Troy-Bilt. It would be a waste of time. I will simply purchase better equipment from a more reliable company that produces good quality equipment with reliable warranty. A lesson well learned of how Troy Bilt treats the customers. Will alert all of the quality/warranty of Troy Bilts equipment. You would think Troy Bilt would build better quality equipment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good while it lasted; No durability or warranty I bought the TB35 EC in August 2018 as part of a bundle sale at Lowe's with one free attachment, and purchased the brush cutter attachment and some TruFuel 40:1 premix. Out of the box, the unit seemed solid and started without issue. The trimmer was used for edging around sidewalks (my yard is less than a quarter acre) and for cutting a 20x40 grass plot on another piece of land. The brush cutter was for times the grass on the plot got too overgrown for the string trimmer to handle. At first, all was great. The power was adequate for edging, which can be tricky the first time you establish an edge, and the attachments swapped out easily. However, in May 2019, the string trimmer head started to fall off, and I realized the plastic hex-shaped slot where the head connected to the drive shaft had stripped out, so I switched to the AeroFlex head. After less than 2 months, that too started show signs of stripping in the same spot. Takeaway: The Troy-Bilt heads are cheap junk. An aftermarket replacement from another brand proved much more durable for the short remaining life of the powerhead. Also around May 2019, the edger attachment also started to show signs of wear. The button that locks the attachment in place started to get "wiggly", causing the attachment to move slightly during use. No amount of tightening could correct the issue. It was a small irritant, but also an indicator of poor durability. Finally, and worst of all, in August 2019 -- just one year after purchasing the unit -- it refused to start. After repeated attempts, the pull cord seized up. Thinking I would be covered by the 2 year warranty, I took the unit to an authorized Troy-Bilt service center, who held the unit for over a week and called to inform me "The cylinder is scored and the unit isn't worth repairing. That will be a (price moderated) diagnostic fee." I inquired as to how that could happen on a unit that received such light use, and why Troy-Bilt wouldn't honor the warranty. The servicer alleged "only two things could cause the damage" they observed: Improper lubrication or sand in the cylinder. I informed them I used TruFuel 40:1 premix exclusively in the unit, so lubrication isn't the issue, and as for the "sand in the cylinder," shouldn't a properly maintained air filter prevent that? I was told there was nothing they could do, Troy-Bilt won't warranty a scored cylinder. So I called Troy-Bilt, relayed this story, and was told -- surprise -- there's nothing THEY can do, because they have to rely on the servicer's determination. Pretty genius way to avoid paying warranty claims. TL;DR: This is the second MTD-manufactured product I've owned that crapped out early in life. I won't be burned again, and I highly recommend you avoid these disposable products at all costs. Check your brands, because MTD manufactures for most of the ones you find in big-box stores. There is no warranty support, and you'll find yourself paying out of pocket for the privilege of being told to pound sand--but hey, "we value your business!"

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I pick this machine because of the name TROYBiLT, I used 1 tank of gas and didn’t even use it all. The machine died on me about 3/4 of the way thru the tank. At this point i’ve Spent about an hour pulling the thing to make it run. It wasn’t running good during the tank of gas to begin with. I own a rototiller that is about 35-40 years old and it runs super but this is a piece of junk. I want my money back!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Broke bolt on jump star housing so no seal. Manufacturing date of 11/17 so not even 2 years old. I can’t find my prof of purchase so I’m out of luck. Never buying Troy or related products again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Short Lived This is the second of the same model that I've owned. Like the first, it inexplicably lost compression and died at a young age. The first was less than 4 years old and the second was less than 2. I took it to an "Authorized Service Center" only to be told that it had been "run with an improper fuel mixture" and that Troy Bilt would not repair it under warranty. (I have always been careful and precise with the proper fuel mixture and only used ethanol free gas) I thought the first failure might have been a fluke and replaced it with the same model, but after that one failed with even less use than the first, I believe this to just be a poorly built and/or designed tool that Troy Bilt will not stand behind. I would recommend spending your money on a better quality tool.
