Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed Received my Big Red Tiller on 05-15-19 through Home Depot. Spent 3 Hours with Troybilt "HelpLine" to find out how & where to connect the Neutral Safety Switch. Received no definite solution. Later I found that the Battery Tray was improperly installed which did not allow enough clearance to insert the Male connector from the Handle Bars into the NSSw Female Connector. After correcting this Troybilt assembly error I managed to stumble through the very poor excuse for a Product Manual and completed the assembly of the Tiller. While tilling a small Garden Plot I had two Lever Knobs come off in my hand while exerting normal pressure on them. The Tine Engagement Lever was not tightened on the shaft either when delivered. When you attempt to tighten the set screw on the shaft it does not grip well and just loosens with use. After tilling the plot I placed the Transmission in "Fast" Mode to transport the tiller back to my garage. WhenI stopped the tiller , idled down the engine and shut it off the Transmission LOCKED IN FORWARD GEAR-WILL NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. After searching the Troubleshooting Section of the "Manual" it says to "lube the Motor Mount Bars". Completed-no change in Transmission. Also the Throttle Lever and cable that mounts on the Handle Bars doesn't work -USELESS!!!!! I now have a Brand New Tiller with less than Break In Hours on it that I have nothing but issue after issue with. VERY DISAPPOINTED with the Troybilt "QUALITY" that you advertise to sell your . Products .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Details are lacking My second Horse. One rim was mounted so that the valve stem is on the inside making it difficult to check air pressure. Throttle cable is plastic and was broke/not working correctly within one month. Plastic knob for throttle on the engine vibrated loose while in loose and is somewhere in one of my gardens. Plastic handle on the Tines/PTO Clutch Lever vibrated loose while in use and is somewhere in one of my gardens. The actual functionality of the tiller is great as also. But given what I spent on the tiller, that I had to put it together and then have these nominal but convenient pieces vibrate off or brake is very disappointing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive and unreliable I am on my 3rd horse tiller since 1990. The first two were reliable. The Big Red I have now has been a lemonade stand on wheels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sure Beats a Shovel! This is an easy to use rototiller that doesn't take a weight-lifter to maneuver and use. It really makes gardening easy and quick!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the Original Troybilt This is my second Troybilt Horse model. The drive system and engine is like the first, however, others features are inferior. The clutch lever is made of soft tubular steel design and has bent already from normal use. The tine engagement mechanism has a socket head screw that engages the spline which wore off and had to be replaced. The safety switch system on the handles quite working and I had to repair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong as a Horse! I have had my Big Red since March 18, 2000. We live on 1.3 acres in the Piedmont area of North Carolina which has very heavy red clay; they make brinks out of it! After five years I had to replace the original tines with the extra heavy-duty set I had purchased with the tiller. With regular servicing I expect it will last another 18 years by which time I will no longer be on this earth or at least gardening as I do now. When we moved in in 1998, I asked that the builder not do any landscaping. I had seven loads of composted horse manure brought in and paid a local farmer to plow, till and plant the yard with winter rye the first year. Then I spent the winter putting my landscape plan together. In March 2000, I tilled the entire back yard, over an acre, with my new Big Red: planted fruit trees and shrubs and prepared a 60 X 60 foot vegetable garden area. I till the garden twice a year incorporating free horse manure and barn litter from the horse barn behind us (six horses produce all I will ever need)! I keep the vegetable rows 3-4 feet apart so I can cultivate during the growing season and keep the weeds down. I also use Big Red on annual flower beds around the yard, pre- and post-season. When I first got it, the battery start was fine, but it does not charge very well, so I hand crank it to start. Even on cold mornings and after it has been sitting in the unheated barn unused for a couple of months, with the choke on, it only takes one or two pulls on the cord to get it started. It is not a hard pull either. When my 550 pound lawn tractor quit on me at the bottom of the hill (of course), I used big Red in low gear and a rope to pull the riding lawn mower back up to the garage - 200 feet up a 30 degree slope. While I can now walk beside it and guide it with one hand, I still have to man-handle it to turn it 180 degrees at the end of each pass. I call it "Waltzing Matilda". After 20 years of tilling and amending, I have some of the best soil in the county; my tomatoes currently stand 7 feet tall! I could not have done it with out Big Red! Thank you for building a quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 35 years old and still runs like new My Dad bought this tiller in January of 1983. He maintained it perfectly and taught me to do the same. It is running like a top. I love the electric start (great for an old man like me) and the ease of operation. It does the job - not only that, but it makes the job enjoyable. I look forward to firing it up and playing in the dirt. I can't imagine gardening without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tiller juts like Dads My Dad bought a Troybilt when I was younger and we've used it for for many years ( i guess around 25 yrs) and finally we needed a new one. I bought this Troybilt and it's performed as well as the one Dad has (it's retired for light work while this new one is for the ground breaking and heavy stuff).
