I purchased this for my small yard because I'm getting older and harder to walk long distances behind mower. I could hire someone to mow, like my neighbors, but I like taking care of my own yard. I spread about 8-10 yards of mulch and compost each year and have a tow cart to make the job a little easier.
Mower has performed as expected. No problem with knobs or starting. I would have liked steering to be a bit lower or adjustable. Like others, I don't care for shift knob between my legs making shift to reverse slow and an annoyance. Because of 18" turning, I use the reverse more than I'd like too.
Overall, it's about what I had expected. Yes I'd recommend it to anyone with limited space.

Perfect Urban mower
Powerful enough to help me mow a lawn in 20 minutes that used to take an hour with my push mower. Small 30" deck lets me get through a couple of very narrow passages I have around my house.

My Neighborhood rider
The rider is great for mowing around trees, gardens, and all types of unique items around the house and lawn. It turns quickly and has a tight turn. It is comfortable and I enjoy the ride. Friends who have larger mowers cannot make the turns or the accurate cuts that I can with this mower. It starts right up and runs smooth. If you have a lawn with a lot of turns this is the one for you.

TB 30
Bought new in August 2016, used for rest of season with no problems. Rider does have a higher center of gravity so caution needs to be used on any slight slopes. The wheel base needs to be wider for more stability. The transmission shifter is straight down from the seat between your legs which makes it difficult to shift from forward to neutral to reverse if you are of shorter stature or larger in size. This transmission shifter needs to be moved to the side for better access. The same goes for the speed selector. This thing will hauls in sixth gear, so hang on. Only complaint on motor is changing the oil is a pain. The plastic oil drain chute that came with is a joke at best, it does not flow the oil into your oil drain pan. You should prop up the right side of the mower so the oil will drain down the chute. Plan on oil spilling all over the engine deck and eventually onto the blade deck. What a pain to clean up. I highly recommend a suction pump to change the oil. The engine runs very well and starts easily. The rider has a tight turning radius which is nice. Overall this is a nice little dependable rider for those that have a smaller to medium size yard. I would recommend this to others.

good value
Good mower for small yard, will fit through gate, good turning radius, easy to raise and lower cutting height. Shift lever location not ideal, shift knob is too loose.Clutch lurches upon starting. Happy with purchase, doing a good job for what it is intended to do.

Perfect mower for my needs
This mower fills my need for my size property. Have a little more than 1/2 acre to mow. Front lawn has slope of 5-5.5 foot drop in 100 feet, plenty of power to pull me up while mowing. Back yard mostly flat but four large trees plus raised beds to mow around all fenced. Nimble little mower. Bought it in May, used it all summer with no complaints, not even the OSHA mandated Backup safety restrictions, Ie - read the freaking owners manual. Bought the grass catcher also because I have four huge trees in the back and two large ones in front, lots of leaves to contend with. Very impressed by the grass catcher. Have used it six or seven times this fall so far and haven't clogged it one time yet. The mower it replaced used to clog at least three times per leaf pick up session. Happy owner. No difficulties installing the grass catcher either, again, read and understand the instructions. Pleased owner.

Just Perfect
For my 13000 sq ft lawn the TB30 R mower is perfect. Easy to maneuver, tight turning radius, easy to turn. My yard is landscaped, and the mower cuts the grass right to the edge from any angle. I did weed eat all my borders "out a bit" so I wouldn't have to use my walk behind. And the grass that I couldn't mow, is easily cut with me weed eater, as I trim after every mowing anyway. I remedied the shifter knob coming off easily with a little "JB Weld" and hasn't came of yet. I also purchase the bagging system, which works great if your grass isn't to long. If your grass is long you will be dumping the "bags" often as the only hold 60 gallons of grass. I usually mow in 2nd or 3rd gear as this is fast enough, though it has 6 speed's. The Hydrostat TB30 is $400.00 more which I opted not to buy.

Great Little Riding Mower
I purchased this mower 3 weeks ago and have been very pleased with its performance thus far. It is my first riding mower, and am very pleased with my experience with it. Lowes delivered it assembled and free of charge. I was initially concerned when starting it, because it was smoking, but the delivery personnel said that was normal and would fade after a few minutes, and it did. I especially like the short turning radius and various speeds. As others have stated, it cuts very nicely and very easily - leaving a carpet like appearance behind. I have used It 3 times and cannot wait to cut my yard again! It has made this weekly chore much more enjoyable - I even look forward to my grass growing now. A couple of issues that others have mentioned: the transmission gear changing knob continues to come off in your hand while trying to use it, and you must be careful when going up small grades and turning the wheels - they can become stuck under the body's fenders - rendering the mower immobile. You must also exercise care if you go onto an uneven surface, as only one of the wheels seem to rotate and can cause you to become stuck. Otherwise, this is an excellent little mower that I hope will last for years to come. Lastly, I hope Troybilt will install a hour meter to track usage of the mowing time. It would also be nice if they sold a retrofit version, for those who have already purchased this mower.
