Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Mower so far I had my reservations about this unit as I believe everyone does. First off, I have always wanted a unit larger mower than the standard mower. Because I don't own a SUV or a truck - there was no way I could ever get one home. Because this power base is separate from the mower, I was able to get both home at the same time in the back seat of my Toyota Camry. Once I got it home, I read the manual - which to my surprise was necessary. Out of the box the fingertip drive mechanism needed to be adjusted. Before I made the adjustment I attached the mower attachment ( which is necessary to start the base unit ). I then added the included oil and then gas. I started the unit and to my surprise - it only slightly moved when I pulled up the drive lever. I then started turning the adjustment screw until the unit started moving by itself. I then backed off the screw a full turn. WOW. I then pulled in the drive lever and it was popping wheelies all over the place. I then engaged the Mower attachment with the upper lever and there was no reduction in power. It is amazing. I don't understand the reviews that indicate that this unit lacks power. They either didn't adjust the drive screw or read the manual. I tried to pull the unit backwards as it was powering itself forward and it just pulled me along while I was dragging my shoes on the ground. I've now had the unit for 2 months now and it still starts first pull. I have since purchased the power washer and the snowblowing unit. I can't wait for it to snow.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strong product but not for beginners This product and all of its attachments are very well packaged, but make sure you have a power-driver and a good set of pliers to take apart the boxes and disconnect the mower deck from the pallet. Once unpacked, make sure to read through all of the manuals as this requires treated gasoline, might need some oil added, and almost all of the attachments require some additional maintenance or consideration when using them. The instructions make it seem like you can engage the attachment to the power base by simply placing the base at the back of the attachment and lifting the attachment, but it actually takes a bit more force when engaging the attachment. It does start with a single good pull, as I've come to expect with Troy-bilt products. The unit is set to do regular maintenance fairly easily with a long oil drain outlet that sits nicely to the back where you can easily set a drain pan underneath. Once you get going, it does take some time to get used to using the attachment engagement lever and the self-propel engagement lever. They are quite large and the self-propel takes off quite quickly and moves the system quickly. This isn't anything like most people who are used to a self-propelled mower would expect. If you have ever worked any more professional equipment, you'll have no problem as this is right along the same lines. One of the best pieces to this product is the single motor for maintenance though. I have 3 attachments and am waiting for the ones reported to be available next year and only have one motor to maintain. I do wish that the motor had an hour run-time monitor though as most of the maintenance manuals are recommended based on hours of use. All-in-all it's a great piece for someone who does a ton of their own yard-work with more than half an acre and less than what would be reasonable to have a tractor with a hydraulic PTO for those attachments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Buy I'm am very pleased with the purchase of the flex. I have the snow thrower and pressure washer they are both excellent. I plan on purchasing the lawn mower attachment shortly. I really like only having one engine to maintain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flex system I have had this system for a little over a month. It is very powerful and the mower deck does a fantastic job. The pressure washer works extremely well also. You just have to be careful when engaging the self propel system. The mower deck will come off the ground if you don't pull up on the handles when engaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding System After a lot of research I purchased the Flex Power Base and several components; mower, leaf blower, thatcher, chipper/shredder, snow blower, which I've reviewed separately. I have not been disappointed in any way - this is a high quality, heavy duty system designed for residential, not commercial use. I have 1/2 acre of lawn, 1 acre of oak forest and a 250' driveway, all of which I maintain by myself; this system gives me the power and versatility to keep it all neat and tidy, with only one gas engine to maintain. The 208cc 4-cycle Power Base provides a great deal of power for propulsion and running the attachments. The engine consistently starts on the first pull and can be easily switched from warm weather to cold weather use. Attachments "click" on easily and uncouple when the kick stand is moved to the down position. The users who are troubled by the "wheelie" effect are not feathering the drive lever properly - when the lever is correctly operated, the drive speed can be varied at will from a crawl to a quick trot, which is really useful and an improvement over fixed-speed throttles. Being a heavy unit, the base + attachments do require some strength to operate but with a little practice (and first reading the operator's manuals), they are pretty easy to maneuver. Changing the oil at the recommended intervals is essential - there is a helpful instructional video on YouTube. Overall, I'm totally satisfied with the Flex System, particularly since the alternative would have been to purchase four or five stand-alone units with individual engines that would sit idle for long periods. Troy-Built offers good deals on bundled packages - it's worth checking out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plenty of power The power unit, when attached to the mower unit, has the power I need to pull my steep hill while cutting 3-4 inches of wet grass. Starts easy but I sure wish it had an idle setting - it is either full on or full off! It also should have some kind of breaking system. It is heavy and on any kind if hill, it can get away from you. I have attached a string from the key to my belt so if I slip or can't hold it, at least the engine will stop. I also have the blower which works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding choice so far. Just purchased the base and mowing unit so far, but plan to buy the power washer, and snow blower soon. Possibly purchase the sweeper, if it comes out. Easy to start, and very powerful system, and I love the ease of use when detaching/detaching components. So far the mower is easy to use, but the ergonomics of the handle/hand placement needs work. Kind of tiring on mower after a while. Needs to lighten the weight a little, to make it easier to maneuver. Faster mowing time over my old TORO walk behind mower. Other than that, I love my new Troy Bilt FLEX! Greatest idea from Troy Bilt yet. My garage space thanks you!
