Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid/Dependable I have owned my chipper vac since 2005. Starts every year with just a couple of pulls on the starter cord. Runs everytime. Does a great job vacuuming leaves and debris. I can run it all day with just a couple of fuel stops. Would be nice if it had electric start.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Vacuum with one Big and Expensive Issue I bought this three seasons ago and it does a great job vacuuming. Good engine that starts easily and good performance. The issue is that the clasps that close the bag break very easily. One broke 3/4 of the way through the first season. The replacement is very expensive, about 18% of the cost of the original equipment. I paid a lot more than that because my local Troy Bilt repair place didn't tell me you don't have to buy the whole assembly. I hardly used it the second season but about 1/4 of the way through this season, a clasp broke again. I also noted that the rubber that connects the handle to the bag is cracking and will soon cause the handle to break off the bag, which will make it unusable. Picture of broken clasp shown. If it weren't for this issue, it would be great value. There are folks on Amazon complaining also. It's a shame to have a great product with one poorly designed item that ruins its value and utility.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from useful when it works Good Vac, power is adequate. However iv'e had two hoses break in a year and one bag none of which seems to be covered by extended warranty. I also had the engine seize the first year and i struggled to find a repair center for service because as one guy put it "its a chore to get paid by the company". overall if its running it makes clean up a lot better and faster.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Convenient but little issues When it works, it is a quick way to get yard work done, especially cleaning up leaves. I have had the unit for 2.5 yrs and live in Florida which i would consider light duty compared to the North. I have run into a couple of issues making this difficult. The flapper that controls the suction to the hose won’t close so the front vac has reduced suction. The spring is to weak which robs suction when using the front vac. The front valve used to open and close the main flap between the front and rear vac has broken with very little use. When it is open to the rear the area the stronger front vac is blocked off, when closed the broader center van is functioning. The flapper lever on top is now broken and the flapper is stuck so the stronger front vac will not work. You should be aware of a couple things in general. 1. This is a sizable motor that has to be pull started. I’m 6’1, 250lbs and i have to give it a big pull to get it started. If you are smaller you can expect even more effort to get it to start. I am amazed that it will start with one good pull and that is a huge plus. Be sure to pull out the choke when starting. 2. Use high octane, ethanol free fuel. The high octane fuel starts burns easier making it easier to start and it runs well. 3. Remove fuel when storing. I could not start the unit one year until i replaced the fuel. I didn’t think it mattered that much until I experienced this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from skibi50 When I first got this machine the right drive wheel would not drive. I had to bring it in to an authorized dealer to get it fixed under warranty. It is not easy to start. There is no chock or primer bulb or speed control. After one year the cheap Chinese made spark plug went bad and I had to change it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4yrs in I have owned this unit for 4 yrs so I have some experience using it in a yard that has plenty of leaves. I bought this because it would literally take me and entire weekend to blow leaves to clear my yard and that didn't include cleaning the shrubs. This has been a Godsend but with a couple of nagging issues. First off when I got it it started on the first pull. It always starts on the first pull but that first pull will almost take your arm off. My wife could never start the thing. She just isn't strong enough. I'm barely able to pull it to get it started. The hose feature is nice but it will clog and it will break off eventually. I have reattached it, tried to reinforce with different tapes but it will keep breaking. It get's shorter after each too. I try not to use it now but in the bushes you have to. It's heavy. I don't know how anyone could use the push models with any sort of grade. This would be impossible to push up my hills or event through tall grass. Self propelled is a must. All that said this machine sucks up leaves, debris and leaves my lawn looking well vacuumed. It does a far better job than the bag attachment on the mower. And if you want to fly the self propelled adjustment can be set so high that you almost have to jog behinds t keep up yet it still sucks up the leaves. I wouldn't mind a side discharge option because sometimes the amount of leaves etc isn't that great and I'd like to simply mulch them and leave on the lawn and not have to stop and empty the bag. Probably some OSHA deal because I imagine the discharge would fly out at supersonic speeds. Good product, some flaws but not enough to not earn a 4 star from me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this machine! I previously owned the Sears version which was also great, but did not have the self-propelled feature which I always wanted. This powerful machine saves me tons of time with my cleanup. Instead of blowing the leaves and then having to pick them up and bag them, I vac them up and the machine grinds them up with an 8:1 reduction. I also use the hose to get into flower beds and shrubs, which would otherwise need hand-cleaning. One suggestion would be to make the hose diameter about an inch larger; it easily clogs if you try to vacuum too aggressively. Otherwise, it's a perfect machine! Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Money WELL spent I just finished using it and WOW!!! Just so you get the TRUE effect of how well this machine works, let me give you a few facts. First, this was my first time setting foot out in my yard to pick up leaves since they started falling in late September (today is November 29th), that's just about 9 weeks of leaf falling and countless rainstorms over the past two months. Second, I didn't get that last cut in before the leaves started falling, so my grass is kinda long. Well, the temp was 70 degrees today, so I went out and pulled the cord and the rest is history. I wish I could post pictures. Right now I'm looking at a very GREEN yard. This thing pulled the leaves right up through the long grass. I HIGHLY recommend the self-propelled because this machine does a great job at mulching so it will compact a LOT of leaves into the bag and you WILL feel the weight if you don't have the self-propelled.
