Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected Needed to replace snow blower and lawn mower. Started with power base and Snow attachment. Mower in spring. Two 12 inch+ storms this year...FLEX started on first pull and handled snow easily. As the FLEX is modular, you are going to give something up. For snow, chute adjustment is only compromise. Not a deal killer, just noting. Machine breaks-down to store easily. That's a big deal for me and my limited garage space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wouldn't want anything else. This power base provides such great versatility with the numerous options of items that can connect to it at a user friendly expense. Best thing designed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Possiblities It's a neat idea to only need to purchase 1 engine that can power a handful of yard tools. When I bought my first house and was in immediate need for several yard tools the FLEX was the best financial choice. It's a strong engine and very easy to start.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FLEX Power Base Overall, I am happy with my FLEX power base. I believe it to be a durable / reliable product. My ratings would have been higher had the original power base worked properly. I ordered through Troy Bilt and received a package bundle [ Base, Mower, Pressure Washer, Detacher]. The power base ran very rough, and frequently stopped for no apparent reason. Called Troy Bilt and got a local Warranty repair [their list is no longer accurate - only 1 of 4 still do warranty repair]. Repair shop took 4 weeks to complete the repair [replaced the carburetor]. When I used the base again it ran a little smoother; but was nearly impossible to start. Took the power base back and got an exchange for a new unit. New one runs fine. The only other complaint I have has to do with the throttle. There is no gradual acceleration with this power base. Using the mower, frequently the front will jerk into the air when accelerating. I have to lift both handles while squeezing the throttle to keep the mower on the turf. There should be a switch / gear to slowly accelerate this machine. It is very heavy, using the throttle to do fine / detailed areas [while mowing] is problematic at best. That said, the concept here is very good. Connection to the attachments is easy; routine maintenance is easy and accessible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Base broke after a few uses. I purchased the base and aerator attachment a year ago and used it a couple of times with with great results. Bought the snow attachment and used it once, moved 6" of wet snow with ease. Everything was working great, so I bought the mower attachment. I was very happy with the mows so far, however on my fourth mow of this season, the base broke and will not engage the mower blades after mowing half of my lawn. I removed the front plate to check the engagement cable as it felt as if it was not attached to the lug actuator. Upon inspection the lug actuator appears to be weak plastic. Where the engagement cable attaches, it just bends and the cable pops out when engaging the attachment. I find it amazing cheap plastic would be used for a important part that is needed to hold up with starting and stopping the attachments. I can not give a high rating for a product that does not hold up and breaks at a year with minimal use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, strong, engine! I have been using my FLEX power base for two years now and it has not disappointed. I have blown snow, aerated and dethatched my lawn, mowed my lawn, and used the power washer all without a hitch. The engine keeps humming smoothly. Easy to check the oil. Haven't changed it yet since the oil still looks new. Always treat the gas when I put it in in case it stays in the tank for too long, but since I am always using the engine the gas gets used. That's why I chose FLEX so I don't have to maintain more than one engine for my needs at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and flexibility I bought the Flex Base three years ago and could not be happier. I do have to use the choke, even in warm weather, but it always starts. Removing and replacing attachments is fast and simple. Initially I bought the snowblower. I added the mower attachment the following Spring and ditched my old Yard Man which had been serviced three times and never worked well. I also added the Leaf blower in the Fall. This Spring I bought the Power Washer. Everything is well built, easy to maintain, and performs as expected. I am not a mechanic by any stretch, but I am able to change mower blades and maintain this unit by myself thus far. The adjustable handles make it possible for my (short!) wife to use the unit as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of equipment Highly recommend, you can have multiple pieces with little space taken up in the shed or garage

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great setup A very unique setup, has great power whether mowing the lawn or snow blowing! The trigger for take off seams a little sensitive, but if you want to go forward just go! My only problem is that it’s a little heavy, and turning can be a little tricky same with backing up, sometimes it’s as if it’s still in gear and when you pull backwards it doesn’t want to, so you have to give it a little push forwards without having the trigger pulled first before pulling backwards. Other then that I haven’t had any problems with it, my neighbor loves the idea of it, of course that could also be that I also snowblowed his sidewalk all winter since it was so easy..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great idea, needs just a few tweaks. I love the idea of Flex and it has worked well for me so for but there are a couple things I think could be better. - needs reverse gear, kinda heavy to be pulling backwards, especially up a hill. - tool and engagement lever should be operable with one hand, and shouldn't take so much pressure. Hand gets tired after a while. - Drive lever is too far away from grip and sweep is too short. I have smaller hands and it's a reach for the drive lever. Also it's hard to feather the speed for when you don't want to go full speed. Especially with a death grip on the tool engagement lever. - geared handle joint vibrates loose. - could use a light to be a better snowthrower

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good I just bought the base unit and the mower about a week and a half ago. It is very simple and fast to connect and disconnect the mower from the base unit. The base unit also starts with one easy pull. I've mowed with it twice. So far, I love it! It has more than enough power and leaves a very nice cut. I love that the front wheels articulate and I am able to use it as a zero turn. Great for around trees and other obstacles. The pace for walking is also easily adjusted. I plan to buy the snow blower this Fall. My only reason for not giving it a five star rating is that the base unit does not have reverse. I can live with it but it would be very handy, especially with a snow blower. Other than that, I really like this unit and would recommend it to others!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flex Power Base - Difficult at first With mower attachment. As a 1 mile an hour sprinter I found that the power base was far too difficult to keep up with as it lurched forward at a feisty 3+ miles an hour with nothing in between. Holding down the attachment control lever and maneuvering at the same time was also very difficult. I found a video online that showed how to adjust the drive control lever and adjusted it ALL the way down. I'm assuming that some stretching of the drive belts and this adjustment are what have resulted in a manageable walking ("variable") rate of speed. Holding down the attachment control lever with a tube that I slide onto the handle (naughty), saves a hole developing in my hand. At 66 years of age this machine is now working for me. A real solution for the attachment control lever is needed and the drive control adjustment needs better explanation in the users manual (and perhaps better adjusted at the factory before shipping). This combination does a beautiful job on my lawn.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Iron Out The Kinks Having seen the TroyBilt name advertised since I was a kid and hearing positive reviews about your products, I was excited to try such a versatile looking new line of tools. Having had my Flex and 3 of the 4 available attachments for 3 mos.now the jury is still out as to my experience being a positive one. There are a number of design issues that in my experience needed more thought before being taken to production. Have had to replace broken mounting bushing for the "kickstand" and the arm itself is sub par to hold the weight and balance of the power base. The toggle kill switch spade connectors(1 came completely out of the switch, the other is loose) have forced me to "pull the key" to shut it down. The mower head pulley shroud has openings that collect voluminous amounts of grass when using the mulching cover, making it impossible to clear out without removing both shrouds every time!! The sprayer shaft doesn't hang well on the mounting rack without being disassembled. And a number of other idiosyncratic little things that I find could be made more user friendly. And I haven't even taken the snowblower out of it's box!!! Here's hoping that the next generation of this has the kinks ironed out. Great in concept ; getting there in application.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The idea for this setup is awsome This is an absolutely great idea for a machine to be able to do many different things with the flip of a pedal. But here lies the problem. The strength and durability of the parts, and lacks enough power. I am actually faster than this machine with a push mower any day every time. That's the first problem its to slow and should be able to pull me around like a real walk behind for cutting grass. 2nd problem lies in the design. I think it's part number 13 the lower handle. Putting a bunch of bends into one pipe to make a bunch of 45's and 90's to get it up to the handles instead of making actual brackets or something is bad. I bought this at lowes fresh out of the box and it already broke at the same place on both sides in the 45 down to the frame because the bend can't take the force of going back and forth weather in the snow or cutting grass or riding ump and down ramps to get on the back of a truck. I've only had this machine for about 5 months and already problems. Now as for the snow blower attachment the only problem I've experienced is the metal on both sides of the auger is to week. That metal on the side should not be able to bend into the auger. I had this happen 3 times and had to bend it back out away from the auger so it would stop rubbing against it. Now for the pressure washer hahaha I'm sure everybody who got this attachment agrees. There needs to be a way that you can turn the machine on to move it around with out it engaging the pump. Because for me to get it to either were I need it even if its down the street or on the back of my truck I have to disassemble it and pick up a 140 lbs machine because if I turn it on to go up the ramps I will blow the pump. I won't get the leaf blower attachment because when it only blows one direction it is pointless and waste of time. when I have a back pack leaf blower that lets me put leaves or grass were ever I want. With all of this being said I am not by any means hard on my machines. It's just that the work I do and terrain I do the work on are hard or complex. I have been doing this kind of work since I got my work permit when I was 10 and I am 34 now. I live in Maryland and since there is a lot of clay in Maryland the way the ground is is very rough on machines because not all that level or tons of obsticals etc. I will always be a true tester and honest opinion giver. If a machine can take what I put it through than its a great machine. I'm not trying to talk bad about this machine its completely helpful to be able to do a bunch of different things with one machine. It just needs more power and strength in the parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Edge It really works wonderful, but it needs some changes to the lever that operates the power to the wheels. It works too fast and if you pull it quick the thing will do a wheely. It would be nice to have a lock for the lever that operates the attachments. When you mount the grass bag to the power base it makes the mower lean to the right from the back and caused it to cut uneven. I fixed this by raising the front wheel on the cutting deck on the right (from behind) up two notches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FLEX Power Base Just purchased and used for the first time over Memorial Day weekend. Using my old Troy Bilt push mower, it took me about an hour to mow. Using the FLEX took over 2 hours!!! ...as it turns out, buying a new mower, makes every neighbor on my street stop by to check it out and see how it works... Seriously though, I really like the way the mower feels and after getting used to the blade engage mechanism, I think it's going to be a great investment. I do wish there was a "trigger" on both hand grips for making it go forward. By having to squeeze the engagement handle down, then pullt he drive handle up, it may be a bit much for my wife to use, at least from a comfort level. I got used to being able to mow with either hand on the handles. I also wish there was an option for a sulky, but I guess that may have required a transmission to be able to change the speed of the right and left tires independently and probably eaten into their step up models... Overall, very pleased. Purchased the snow blower and mower attachments only for now and ordered the bagger accessory on line. Will leave a separate review on that shortly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Starting problems Why the flex does not have an electric start is crazy. I have been using it for pressure washing and starting is a pain. When cold it takes several pulls, some almost tipping the machine over, and this is in the fall. The winter is going to be worst. Other cheaper 208cc machine have electric start why no this one? This is going to limit the market as some are not going to have the strength to pull hard enough. After starting it runs great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flex Power Base The first 3 times I used this I was struggling to keep it running in a straight line. That is until I realized one tire was low. After that the Machine ran great and with little effort to use. It has a lot of power and mows the lawn great. I have also used the Power Washer and that was great as well. I wouldn't use this on a lawn that has a lot of trees to go around. I use my Smaller mower for the trees and then the rest goes fast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flex with snowblower atatchment. The flex is an easy starter, and the blower is great at throwing snow clear and far. The one big drawback is the lack of gear selection, its at full speed the moment it starts, and that is not always good. Some of the snow removal I do is downhill, and the flex pulls me faster than I like to, causing me to lose footing on the slippery slope. The fast turning wheels also will spin on the slippery surface, that wouldn't happen if the wheels turned slower. I like the work the Flex unit does, but I get a real physical workout when I use it. Snow removal is the main reason for my purchase, and it was suppose to make my life easier, and to some degree it has. A coupler between the Flex and the snow blower that would give me speed selection on the wheels would come closer to that goal for me. Thanks for listening. Dave Wood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flex Power Base So far I really love my Flex Power Base and attachments. The only complaint I have is the drive engagement placement and the ability to "ease into" starts. The trigger engagement wears on the hand after awhile and it is a little tricky to "feather" into starts of mowing and throwing. I am really pleased that coming in Spring 2016 are the dethatcher and aerator. Just what the doctor ordered! In the future a trimmer attachment, both heavy and light duty, and tiller attachment would be wonderful. This would completely clear my garage of other machines! A couple Flex shelves and the Power Base would sure improve the space over a walk behind trimmer, tiller and the Flex units I have now. Keep innovating Troy-Bilt, as the Flex is great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good product Needs improvment, handle adjustment bracket needs to be stronger metal. mine broke from pushing down to lift front tires 1 1/2 inch to get in shed. No way to stop from rolling unless you detach blower or mower. You have to use 2 hands to ingage attachment control lever. I do like that one motor runs different attachments.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Concept with a cautionary note I have been a big fan of Troy-Bilt for years. I just replaced my 20+ year old 33" wide cut mower with the Flex. My only true issue is with the "Variable" speed control. I have read, adjusted, read some more, and have not had much luck in reducing the sensitivity of the engagement of the wheel drive. My old mower (which is still going strong with a new home) had a variable speed that was much more forgiving. This could be a safety concern, as it will take off with you if not careful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from FLEXING my patience for a little more I'm waiting for the second gen of this unit with a little bet more CC's like 255 to 260 with elec start . And larger tires. And last would be a 4500 watt generator attachment for storms.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used with snow thrower Powerful machine for the money especially now reduced at Lowes by a $100. Lacks throttle adjustment which is a major drawback but cannot complain for the price. Practice is highly recommended to get used to pull/take off on first engaging. Not for the weak or slow walker. Must have attachment connected to start up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good concept, 1 motor, multiple attachments I've liked the idea of the Flex since I saw it this spring and I went ahead and purchased it and 4 attachments. The base is powerful enough to run the attachments designed for it. Would be nice if it had a reverse option. The throttle needs adjusting as it will jump away from you when engaging the drive mechanism.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Need help with repairs Machine worked well until muffler heat shield vibrated off. Then after using muffler bolt fell out(broken). Exhaust got louder and other side bolt stripped our. I have pictures, but this space will not let me add them. One other problem was the rivet that holds the engine to frame broke off also. I will be contacting your service when it opens in the AM. I am very upset that I am having these problems on a machine that is less than 3 months old.
