Choosing a Snow Blower That is Right For You. When you're choosing a snow blower, how do you know which one is best for your driveway and region? Two-stage or single-stage? Before buying a snow blower, watch this video to get advice from an MTD snow blower expert. He reviews popular options and tells you how to choose a snow thrower that will meet your needs.
Buying a snow blower: Single Stage or two-stage?
You have two main options when choosing a snow blower: single stage and two-stage. Single stage snow throwers have an auger that collects snow and throws it out of the discharge chute in one motion. Two-stage snow throwers first collect the snow and then an impeller throws it up the discharge chute.
The main factors to consider when buying a snow blower are the amount of snow and the size of the area you'll be clearing. Single-stage snow throwers are designed for small accumulations of light fluffy snow (up to 6 inches) on smaller driveways and sidewalks (20-40 feet). Medium, two-stage snow throwers are designed for moderate snowfall (6-12 inches) on small driveways. Heavy-duty two-stage units are built to handle larger amounts of snow (12-21 inches) on medium-sized driveways (40-60 feet). They often have more features, such as self-propelled drive systems, joystick chute controls and heated hand grips. No matter which MTD snow blowre you choose, make sure you maintain it with genuine MTD snow blower parts.
